Wandsbeker Winterzauber 2026: ice rink and winter village open

Wandsbeker Winterzauber 2026 opened on 31 October at Wandsbeker Marktplatz. A press release from the Wandsbek District Office dated 19 October announced the 21 edition of the winter village. Until 1 January 2027, you can enjoy winter treats and a special ice rink there.

Wandsbeker Winterzauber 2026: Opening on 31 October

The official opening was announced for Saturday, 31 October, at 12. District Office Director Thomas Ritzenhoff was due to open the winter village. This means the season in Wandsbek begins well before Advent itself. The event takes place right in the middle of Wandsbeker Marktplatz and is scheduled to run until and including New Year's Day.

According to the district office, this is already the 21 edition. Alpine huts create a wintry atmosphere around the ice rink. Food on offer includes lard pastries and bratwurst. You can combine your visit with a stroll through the winter village, even if you do not want to skate.

240 square metres of skating fun without traditional ice

The centrepiece is a so-called Like-Ice rink covering 240 square metres. Unlike a conventional ice rink, this surface does not need energy-intensive cooling. Instead, a special surface lets you glide on skates, regardless of the outside temperature. This means you can use the rink even in mild November weather.

The district office also says that the market uses energy-saving LED technology for its Christmas lights. These are two concrete measures the event is taking to limit its energy consumption. If you do not have your own skates, you can rent a pair on site for a fee.

Free ice skating for school classes and nursery groups

Of particular interest to organisations with children: school classes and kindergartens can register for free ice skating. You must register in advance using the registration page provided by the organiser. Free admission is therefore not automatic for every group that turns up without booking.

Private visitors may have to pay to use the rink and rent skates. So check the current terms in advance. It is also worth planning your visit around the times, especially at weekends and during the school holidays.
