What to expect
Herbstkirmes Essen-Altenessen 2027 is expected to take place from 17 to 19 September 2027. The date follows the traditional third weekend in September. For 2026, the organiser announced 18 to 20 September. Separate confirmation of the dates and the full programme for 2027 are still pending.
Autumn funfair Essen-Altenessen 2027: the fairground
The fair takes place at Altenessener Markt. It is in northern Essen, near Allee-Center and Vogelheimer Straße. During the funfair, this centrally located square becomes an area for rides, children's attractions and market stalls. This makes the autumn funfair particularly suitable for a short trip or a family visit. It is clearly distinct from the Altenesser spring funfair in April.
Rides at Altenessener Markt
Previous autumn editions featured classic rides in the square. Popular funfair attractions include family carousels, bumper cars and game stalls. Which rides will actually arrive in September 2027 has not yet been officially announced. A photo from an earlier edition or a ride that appeared previously is therefore no evidence of the upcoming line-up of rides. The individual attractions can be added as soon as the organiser publishes an up-to-date list.
District festival with funfair and food and drink
The funfair regularly forms the centrepiece of a weekend of events in Altenessen. Visitors can find food stalls, confectionery and other attractions around the market square. In September 2026, the autumn funfair was combined with a district festival. There was also a Sunday when shops were open. No corresponding permit or complete stage programme has yet been issued for 2027. A Sunday opening is therefore not being announced as certain.

Based on previous practice, entry to the public funfair site is free. You usually only pay for rides, games or food. Thanks to its location in the heart of the district, the autumn funfair is a popular family destination. Price offers or special programmes for 2027 have not yet been confirmed. You will find the fairground in the Vogelheimer Straße area in 45326 Essen-Altenessen. The area is easy to reach by public transport; in particular, the stops around Altenessen Mitte provide connections. If you are driving, take into account the restricted traffic areas around the market square during the funfair. Check the latest parking and traffic information before setting off.
