The Bremerhaven Christmas Market 2026 is introducing something special: for the first time, three so-called Quiet Hours are planned. On 2, 9 and 16 December, it will be quieter from 13:30 to 15:30 each day. Additional music will pause and light effects will be switched off. The organisers hope this will make a visit more pleasant for people with sensory sensitivities, families with young children and other visitors.
The initiative is being organised in collaboration with the Inclusive Bremerhaven network. Of course, a lively market cannot be completely silent: conversations and normal operating sounds will remain. Even so, the reduced sensory stimulation should make a noticeable difference. If you prefer to avoid large crowds, loud music or flashing effects, you can plan your visit for one of these three afternoons.
Preparations are under way: Christmas trees, fairy-tale huts and light installations are being set up in the city centre. Around 200.000 LED lights and almost 500 decorated trees are set to transform the pedestrian zone. On Monday, 23 November, Mayor Martin Günthner will open the market at 18 at the Große Kirche. A children's and youth choir will accompany the switching on of the lights. Around 70 stalls have been announced.
New to the programme are sing-along concerts on Wednesdays and candlelight concerts on Thursdays. A Christmas parade will also set off from the Große Kirche at 17 on 7 December, heading to Theodor-Heuss-Platz. A giant stilt walker with his marionette is announced for St Nicholas' Day. A fire and laser show is planned for the finale on 23 December. The Passage cinema is also showing free Christmas films on four Tuesdays in December; tickets are limited.
At weekends during Advent, 20 exhibitors will present handicrafts and gift ideas at the Little Christmas World on Theodor-Heuss-Platz. Groups can try Bavarian curling at the Werftbrunnen. For children, the rink is free for curling on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 14. According to the organisers, the food tours around the market cost 25 euros per person and include various samples, followed by a ride on the Ferris wheel.
The Christmas market runs from 23 November to 30 December 2026. It is usually open from 11 to 21, and is closed from 24 to 26 December. If you are planning a visit, you can find the dates and visitor information for Bremerhaven Christmas Market 2026 in our calendar. The full programme and any changes are published by the organiser in its press release.
