Davy Jones Delirium by Thilo Janßen is a large pendulum ride with a pirate theme. The ride combines a powerful swinging motion with a rotating passenger carriage. This turns the back-and-forth movement into a ride with changing views, noticeable acceleration and plenty of dynamism.

Even from the ground, the movement is impressive. The large gondola swings higher and higher while the seats also rotate. This gives riders an experience that is quite different from an ordinary swinging ship ride.

Highlights & records

KMG Afterburner 24 with a rotating, swinging gondola assembly, 24 passenger seats and a ride height of up to 25 m. Themed around pirates and seafaring.

When swinging and rotation meet, the sea becomes a funfair adventure.

Davy Jones Delirium: What the ride feels like

After you board, the pendulum arm gradually gathers speed. The gondola swings from side to side, gaining height as it goes. At the same time, the seats change direction as they rotate. This means the sky and the funfair appear from ever-changing angles.

Near the top of the swing, you feel a brief change in pressure before the gondola pulls down again. The combination of swinging and rotation makes for an intense experience, particularly suited to fans of major thrill rides.

KMG engineering and pirate theme

The ride is based on the Afterburner 24 model by Dutch manufacturer KMG. It was built in 2003 and has room for 24 people. During the ride, it reaches a height of up to around 25 metres. The combination of swinging and rotation makes the ride particularly varied.

The seafaring and pirate theme is an important part of the presentation. It gives the ride its own identity and sets it apart from other pendulum rides that offer similar movements.

The story of Davy Jones Delirium

Before the ride began travelling to German funfairs, it was at the British theme park Pleasurewood Hills. It operated there as a permanent attraction until 2022. It then began a new chapter as a travelling ride under Thilo Janßen from Hamburg.

The move from a theme park to the funfair shows how rides can find a second life after many years in operation. Today, Delirium combines its familiar KMG engineering with a distinctive appearance at different fairs.

Timeline

Built by KMG as Afterburner 24 in 2003. At Pleasurewood Hills theme park in Great Britain until 2022. Since returning to the travelling funfair circuit, it has operated as Davy Jones Delirium under Thilo Janßen.

Who is Delirium suitable for?

If you like pendulum rides and rotating gondolas, Delirium is an exciting challenge. However, the ride may be less suitable if you are sensitive to strong spinning movements. It's best to watch a full cycle from outside first.

The entry point displays the relevant information on minimum height, age and health restrictions. Follow the operator's instructions there. In the attractions guide, you'll find more pendulum rides and thrill rides.
