What to expect
Schwelmer Heimatfest Fair 2027: From Friday, 3 September, to Tuesday, 7 September 2027, Schwelm will once again be transformed into a large funfair city. The city of Schwelm has also expressly confirmed this period in its showmen's tender. At the same time, Schwelm's neighbourhood associations are planning the Heimatfest with the 81th grand parade. The funfair opens at 14 o'clock on all five days. Full daily closing times have not yet been published.
Schwelmer Heimatfest Fair 2027: Fairground and atmosphere
The Heimatfest funfair spreads across several central streets and squares. Wilhelmplatz is traditionally a main focus, with larger rides. Areas around Neumarkt, Bürgerplatz, Moltkestraße and other streets in the town centre are also part of the event. According to the neighbourhood associations' official information, the festival tent is in the park on Wilhelmstraße. You can therefore combine the funfair with the grand parade and the atmosphere of the town centre. The exact location of each attraction will be announced only after all showmen have been selected.
Rides and showmen
For 2026, the city of Schwelm reported around 160 showmen's businesses and up to 200.000 expected visitors. These figures describe the previous edition only. The usual programme also includes major rides, children's carousels, game stalls and stands. However, applications for 2027 remain open until the end of November 2026. It would therefore be wrong to list rides or operators from 2026 as already confirmed. A new official line-up of rides will be added later.
Food and family activities
Between the rides, you can usually find sweet funfair classics and savoury snacks. There are also drinks stands and offerings at the festival tent. Schwelm's neighbourhood associations also contribute to the community spirit through their club activities and parade floats. Families may enjoy walking around the several funfair sites. In the evening, the illuminated carousels create a particularly lively atmosphere.
Schwelmer Heimatfest Fair 2027: Dates and opening times
The funfair officially runs from 3 to 7 September. Schwelm's neighbourhood associations say it opens at 14 o'clock each day. As closing times for 2027 have not yet been fully confirmed, no speculative opening-times schedule has been listed. Individual events such as the fireworks or parade are listed separately in the programme section. This avoids confusing the event's start time with the rides' operating hours.
Heimatfest and special highlights
On Friday, the traditional ceremonial keg tapping by Mayor Stephan Langhard is scheduled for 17 o'clock at Wilhelmplatz. The 13 cannon shots follow at 17:30 o'clock. On Saturday, an ecumenical service begins at 9:30 o'clock at Marienkirche. The 81th grand Heimatfest parade starts on Sunday, 5 September, at around 13 o'clock from Ochsenkamp. On Tuesday, the neighbourhood associations are also holding their Schnurrad activity. The grand high-altitude fireworks display follows at around 22:30 o'clock. These events have already been announced on the official website for 2027.
