Colmar Christmas markets 2026 – even the thought of them sounds magical: colourful half-timbered houses, lovingly decorated shop windows, glowing market stalls and the scent of gingerbread. During Advent, the small Alsatian town looks like a scene from a winter fairy tale. It’s especially enchanting at dusk, when the lights are reflected in the lanes. But you can add a very different experience to this romantic Advent trip: Europa-Park and the Rulantica water world await just a short drive away in Rust.
This means you can combine a cosy evening at the Christmas market with roller coasters, thrills or a relaxing day in warm pools. It’s a particularly varied combination for anyone who thinks of more than mulled wine and crafts when it comes to a winter holiday. We’ll show you how to combine Colmar, Europa-Park and Rulantica, including tips on opening times and two ways to find tickets through GetYourGuide.

In Colmar, not only the Christmas market is beautiful, but practically the entire historic city centre. The narrow lanes, colourful half-timbered façades and decorated squares have a special charm. At Christmas, festive strings of lights, fir branches and lovingly decorated stalls add to the atmosphere. So simply wandering the streets without a particular destination is just as enjoyable as browsing for gifts at the stalls.
The Place de l’Ancienne Douane, the Place des Dominicains and the romantic Petite Venise district are especially worth visiting. There, half-timbered houses line small waterways, while festive lights bathe the streets in warm colours. A lovely walk takes you from one Christmas market to the next. Along the way, you’ll find handicrafts, gift ideas and Alsatian specialities such as Bredele and winter pastries. If you enjoy photography, be sure to stay until dusk. That’s when the city looks especially magical.
Colmar’s main Christmas markets are open from 23 November to 29 December 2026. You can browse from 11 to 19 on Monday to Thursday, and from 10 to 20 on Fridays to Sundays. On 24 December, the markets close at 17. There is also a gourmet market and a Ferris wheel with its own winter programme until 3 January 2027. You’ll find the exact opening times and further information on our event page.
Our tip: Set aside at least half a day for Colmar, or better still, enjoy a leisurely afternoon followed by an evening stroll. You’ll find the exact date, location, daily schedule and more visitor information here: Colmar Christmas markets 2026.
The best thing about combining the two is how close they are: the driving distance between Colmar and Europa-Park in Rust is around 45 kilometres. In normal conditions, you can get there by car in about 45 to 55 minutes. This lets you combine a Christmas market day in Alsace with a day at a theme park or water park in Baden-Württemberg. You don’t have to drive for several hours to get from a romantic Christmas market to the attractions.
For a short winter break, it’s worth staying overnight. You can stay in Colmar to enjoy the illuminated lanes in the evening without rushing, or find a hotel in Rust so you’re right there the next morning. The journey is also possible by public transport, but it takes considerably longer and may involve several changes. That’s why a car is especially convenient for this trip.

A walk through the snow-covered Christmas village is wonderful. But what would a short winter holiday be without a little action? You’ll find just that contrast at Europa-Park. The themed areas are festively decorated, with lights and fir trees shining everywhere, and you can enjoy one of the big roller coasters in between. The park has a particularly cosy atmosphere after dark. Christmas stalls, winter specialities and shows add to the attractions.
The official Europa-Park winter season runs from 28 November 2026 to 9 January 2027 for regular day visitors. The park usually opens at 11 and stays open until at least 19. The park is closed on 24 and 25 December. HALLOWinter runs beforehand, from 2 to 27 November. So, in principle, you can combine a visit with Colmar from 23 November, although the actual winter magic does not begin until 28 November.
Even serious roller coaster fans won’t miss out on thrills. Voltron Nevera powered by Rimac offers rapid acceleration and several inversions, while WODAN – Timburcoaster is one of the park’s well-known wooden roller coasters. Both are generally scheduled to operate in winter. However, individual rides may be temporarily closed at short notice due to cold, snow, wind or maintenance. So check ride availability on the day of your visit. The image above shows Voltron from an earlier season.
You can also take it easy, see one of the winter shows or stroll through the different themed areas. The combination of magical lights and rides is exactly why Europa-Park makes such a good second-day visit after a romantic trip to Colmar.
Europa-Park offers via GetYourGuide: The partner widget below shows activities or tickets available to book, subject to availability. Before booking, always check carefully that your selected offer actually includes admission to Europa-Park and is valid for your preferred date.

The perfect day after your visit looks a little different if you’d rather jump into warm water after Colmar. At Wasserwelt Rulantica, a large Nordic-themed water park awaits you, with a wave pool, water slides and relaxing areas. While the winter air is cold outside, you can swim, slide or simply relax indoors to your heart’s content. Rulantica is a lovely addition to the Christmas markets for families and anyone who loves water attractions.
Although Rulantica is not a traditional thermal spa, it also offers relaxation. If you would like some extra peace and quiet, you can also book the sauna and relaxation area Hyggedal. It has relaxation areas, three textile-free saunas and a steam room. Hyggedal is not accessible to children under twelve; the textile-free sauna area is only open to guests aged 16 and over. Access is also not included in every standard Rulantica ticket. So you should compare the ticket options carefully.
Rulantica is usually open from 9:30 to 22 o’clock. Important for your winter trip 2026: Due to planned maintenance, the water world will be closed from 16 to 27 November. The Vinterglanz winter programme begins on 28 November. Rulantica will also be closed on 24 and 25 December. We therefore particularly recommend visiting Colmar and Rulantica from 28 November onwards.
Rulantica offers via GetYourGuide: In the partner widget below, you can find offers available to book, subject to availability. Check what is included in the ticket and whether wellness services such as Hyggedal have to be paid for separately.
This winter trip is best enjoyed when you don’t try to do everything in a single day. Colmar deserves a relaxed afternoon and evening, so you can explore the historic lanes in daylight and enjoy the Christmas lights after sunset. Afterwards, you can decide whether you’d rather go on roller coasters or enjoy warm water and a sauna.
Of course, you can also reverse the order. Perhaps you’d like to visit Europa-Park first and relax at Rulantica the following day. Or you could start with the water world and spend your last evening strolling around Colmar. Above all, make sure the opening hours fit your travel dates. The three attractions are not all open at the same time throughout November.
The easiest way to plan the full combination of Colmar, Europa-Park and Rulantica between 28 November and 23 December 2026 is to visit during this period. Colmar’s traditional Christmas markets, Europa-Park’s Winter Magic and regular Rulantica operations generally run at the same time. The combination is also possible from 26 to 29 December, provided each attraction is open and tickets are available.
On 24 and 25 December, the situation is different: Colmar still has Christmas market attractions, but Europa-Park and Rulantica are closed. You should also take the weather into account, especially for roller coasters. So plan your visit days first and then book your tickets. It is also important to note that a standard Europa-Park ticket does not automatically include admission to Rulantica. Separate tickets and some combined offers are available.

Little lanes full of lights, magnificent half-timbered houses and lovingly decorated Christmas market stalls – Colmar is simply beautiful during Advent. The blend of French charm and Alsatian Christmas traditions makes a visit especially romantic. And if you fancy a completely different world afterwards, Rust is just the place: whether you experience another upside-down ride on Voltron or slip into the warm water at Rulantica is entirely up to you.
