Wellenflug – Fahrenschon is the large swing ride operated by the Fahrenschon showman family from Rosenheim. The travelling ride by Zierer is one of the classic wave swings: seats hang from long chains beneath an elaborately decorated roof as the structure performs its characteristic wave-like motion. The Große Wellenflug has been family-owned since 2004 and, with its distinctive design, is a feature of southern German fairs, among others.

Highlights & records

Baroque-style wave swing with 48 seats and opposing rotation of the mast and upper section; repeatedly modernised and enhanced.

Fahrenschon's Great Wellenflug combines the gentle swinging motion of a funfair classic with the decorative splendour of a traditional swing carousel.

The Wellenflug – Fahrenschon ride experience

After you get on, the carousel canopy rises and the seats suspended from chains swing outwards as it rotates. The upper section does not simply move in a circle: it tilts slightly as the mast and upper section rotate in opposite directions. This creates the characteristic wave-like motion that gives this type of ride its name.

The Fahrenschon Wellenflug is designed to give you a shared sense of flight. Single and double seats let you enjoy the ride alone or with someone else. The free view over the neighbouring stalls is especially appealing as the seats rise into the air. The ride combines this classic motion with an elaborately designed façade and modern lighting. For many visitors, it is therefore both a ride and a familiar sight on the fairground.

History and operators of Wellenflug – Fahrenschon

According to the ride database Ride-Index, the current ride dates from 1994. It initially travelled with Karl K. Birkeneder from Stuttgart. In 2004, the Fahrenschon showman family took over the carousel. In its own company history, the family reports that the Great Wellenflug replaced the Hexentanz, which it had previously operated, and has been repeatedly improved and enhanced since the takeover.

The family's history goes back much further than that of this particular carousel. Switching to the Wellenflug was a deliberate expansion of the family's offering. With a classic swing ride, well-maintained decorations and a pleasant ride experience are important parts of the overall experience. This made the Wellenflug a recognisable ride belonging to the family.

Tips for your visit

The Great Wellenflug is a good choice if you are looking for a view and a floating ride experience but do not want to go upside down. Its freely hanging seats set it apart from rides that circle close to the ground. You feel the breeze directly as you enjoy the fair's surroundings.

A particularly beautiful sight can be enjoyed in the evening, when the lights of the ride combine with the illumination of the fairground. The on-site ride requirements apply to children. Our collection of travelling attractions offers an overview of other carousels..
