Twister – Alain Coenen

What it’s like to ride Twister Coenen

You stand in one of the compartments around the edge of the circular platform. As soon as the wheel starts spinning, centrifugal force presses you firmly against the wall behind you. An arm then lifts the platform until it is steeply upright. This makes you spin almost like on a Ferris wheel, held in place mainly by centrifugal force. Your view also keeps switching between the sky and the funfair.

The force only lets up once the wheel is flat again. Many passengers are surprised by how powerful this simple principle feels.

History of Twister Coenen

The Round-Up principle originated in the USA in the 1950s and quickly spread to European fairs. Alain Coenen operates one of these rides in Belgium with Twister. The manufacturer, year of construction and previous owners have not yet been publicly documented. The basic principle has remained almost unchanged for decades.

Who is this ride suitable for?

Twister is suited to teenagers and adults who enjoy centrifugal force and spinning. The ride is not intended for small children. The minimum height is posted at the entrance, along with instructions on the correct position during the ride. If you are sensitive to prolonged spinning, watch one ride from the outside first. Stow loose items safely before riding.
