Take Off Schmit is a travelling thrill ride operated by the Belgian showman family Schmit. The ride was built by the German manufacturer HUSS and is one of the few Take-Off models still travelling today. It originally stood in a large Scandinavian theme park before moving to the funfair circuit. Each ride can carry 40 passengers.

From a Swedish theme park to the Belgian funfair: Take Off has been operating since 1994, thrilling visitors with height, tilt and rotation.

What it’s like to ride Take Off Schmit

You sit in a large round gondola suspended from a powerful arm. As the ride begins, the gondola spins. At the same time, the arm gradually lifts it and tilts it. This gives you alternating views of the sky and the fairground below. You also clearly feel the centrifugal forces every time the direction changes.

It is the combination of height, tilt and rotation that makes this HUSS design so exciting. So watch a full ride before you get on.

The history of Take Off

HUSS delivered the ride to the Swedish theme park Liseberg in Gothenburg in 1994. It operated there until 1996 under the name Takeoff. It then came to Belgium in 1997 and has travelled around the funfair circuit with the Schmit family ever since. It has therefore been travelling for nearly three decades, including at the Oktoberfoor in Ostende.
