Snow-Dream – Buchser
The Swiss Himalaya ride with winter scenery
Operator: Alexandra Buchser / Buchser showman family (Switzerland) · since 1998
Snow-Dream Buchser is a historic Himalaya ride that has been part of Swiss Chilbi culture for many years. The Musik-Express belonging to the Buchser family stands out with its wintry design: instead of an ordinary roundabout ride, you can enjoy a ride through a miniature mountain world. The gondolas circle along a wavy track while music and the colourful façade create a fairground atmosphere. In Basel, the attraction is as well known by its name Snow-Dream as it is as a classic Himalaya ride.

Highlights & records
Historic Himalaya ride with a wintry design; according to the operator, one of only three rides built in this style.
A Mack classic with its own character: Snow-Dream combines the lively Musik-Express ride experience with a wintry design and Swiss Chilbi tradition.
A classic at Swiss fairgrounds
Snow-Dream Buchser is closely tied to Swiss showman tradition. For example, SRF reported live from Basel's Autumn Fair on 2023, featuring Alexandra Buchser and Snow-Dream at Münsterplatz. The official overview of Basel's Autumn Fair also lists the attraction among the rides. Especially where several major new rides are vying for attention, Snow-Dream offers a different kind of appeal: a familiar ride experience, a well-maintained historic attraction and its own wintry atmosphere.

What a ride on Snow-Dream Buchser is like
Riders sit in cars that travel along a circular track with a wavy profile. As the ride picks up speed, higher and lower sections alternate. This creates the characteristic Musik-Express sensation: the car is pushed outwards on the bends while also travelling over the waves. The ride is therefore less about height or inversions and more about rhythm, curves and sharing the experience.
Music is also an important part of the experience. The wintry scenery gives the ride a distinctive character that many other roundabout rides lack. You can watch the entire ride from the fairground. The combination of a ride you can see in motion and its striking design makes it interesting for spectators too.

History of Snow-Dream Buchser
Snow-Dream was built by Mack in 1977. According to the showman's business, it is one of a very small group of three rides built in this style. The Buchser family has owned the ride since autumn 1998. Since then, the family has shaped its presence at Swiss fairgrounds.
The family has carefully maintained its appearance over the years. For example, the gondolas were repainted in 2006, and the ticket booth was refurbished in 2007. Work on the support arms and façade followed. In 2008, the support arms and gondolas underwent an X-ray inspection; work on the façade continued in 2009. These documented measures show how much care goes into a travelling classic.
Responsibility was also passed on within the showman family: in 2023, Swiss broadcaster SRF and the Canton of Basel-Stadt reported on Alexandra Buchser, who had taken over Snow-Dream from her father. The handover was part of a generational change among the showmen at Basel's Autumn Fair.

Who is the ride suitable for?
Snow-Dream is for visitors who enjoy classic roundabout rides with music. The ride is especially appealing to people who appreciate the traditional Musik-Express experience but are also looking for a distinctive design. The changing movement along the wavy track creates a lively ride, without the gondolas performing inversions.
If you are visiting with friends or family, the ride is also a classic Chilbi experience. The cars travel close together around the centre of the ride. This creates a shared sense of momentum that is quite different from a ride controlled by individual riders. Ask the ride operator directly about the riding requirements.
