Operator: Robert Gormanns / Gormanns GmbH (Rostock/Düren) · since 2016
Ostseestern I – Gormanns is a transportable Ferris wheel operated by the Gormanns showman family. Built by Mondial in 2016, the wheel was presented in Germany in March 2017 and combines impressive views with a particularly compact design. With 26 gondolas, it is one of the medium-sized travelling Ferris wheels that can fit into town festivals and funfairs where there is no huge event site.

Highlights & records
The Gormanns family’s first Ostseestern Ferris wheel; according to the operator, it can be assembled without a large mobile crane and takes about six hours to be ready for operation.
Ostseestern I combines a compact fairground footprint with 26 gondolas and impressive views – not to be confused with the second Ostseestern.
Ostseestern I – Gormanns: views from 26 gondolas
The views are the main attraction on Ostseestern. The gondolas move gently around the wheel’s axis, allowing you to take in the surroundings from different angles. The wheel has 26 gondolas, each with up to six seats. When fully occupied, this means up to 156 people can ride at the same time. That is a remarkable capacity for a comparatively compact Ferris wheel.
The operator states a height of 35 metres. From the top, you can discover the paths around the fairground, the rooftops nearby and the sea of lights in the evening from a completely different perspective. The ride also offers a calm alternative to the faster carousels. In the dark, the illuminated fairground is particularly impressive from the gondola.

Ostseestern I technology and transport – Gormanns
The Ferris wheel was made by Mondial in the Netherlands; Ride-Index lists it as model MCS 33/26. The structure is distributed across three semi-trailers. This means it can be transported from one fair to the next without the enormous logistics required for larger Ferris wheels. According to the operator, it requires a footprint of just 17 by 14 metres.
One special feature is how it is assembled. According to Gormanns, the Ferris wheel can be set up without a large mobile crane and can be ready to operate within around six hours of arrival. This is practical for event organisers, as the fairground is often available only shortly before opening. The operator also states a connected load of 35 kilowatts. History: the first Ostseestern Ferris wheel
Ostseestern I was built in 2016. According to Ride-Index, its German debut took place on 11 March 2017 at the Faselmarkt in Butzbach; the ride had previously been seen in France. This makes it one of a generation of modern touring Ferris wheels that can be assembled quickly. Its defining concept combines ease of transport with a view.
It is important to distinguish between the rides operated by Gormanns: an Ostseestern II has also been in operation since 2023. Despite their similar design, it is a separate Ferris wheel. The second Ostseestern has 24 gondolas, while the first Ostseestern described here has 26 gondolas. Liberty Wheel, which is also operated by Gormanns, is another ride. This makes it easy to identify Ostseestern I when looking for a specific funfair line-up of rides.
Timeline
German debut on 11.03.2017 at the Faselmarkt Butzbach; preview appearance in France in November 2016. A separate Ostseestern II (24 gondolas) has also been in operation since 2023.

Who will enjoy a ride?
Ostseestern I is for visitors who want to experience a fair beyond its stalls. Families can sit together in a gondola and get an overview of the site. If you prefer watching the sights to experiencing quick changes of direction or loops, this offers a different kind of funfair enjoyment. Please observe the rules for children and accompanying adults displayed at the ride.
If you want to know which fairs have announced Ferris wheels and other attractions, use the funfair calendar. This profile is specifically about Gormanns' first Ostseestern, regardless of where it is appearing.
