Maximus – Ad & Albert Ordelman
Roman-themed Heavy Rotation with a gladiator and powerful spinning forces
Operator: Ad & Albert Ordelman (A&A Rides, Netherlands)
Maximus Ordelman is a travelling thrill ride run by the Dutch showman family Ordelman. The Italian manufacturer Technical Park built the ride as “Heavy Rotation”. Its Roman design alone makes it unmistakable: a large gladiator with a sword stands at the centre of a rotating disc. It also has an arm that raises the entire passenger platform during the ride.

Highlights & records
Roman gladiator theme; freely rotating central gladiator figure with a sword as the passenger platform moves.
Maximus combines intense spinning with a freely rotating gladiator figure – a strikingly themed thrill ride operated by the Ordelman family.
What it’s like to ride Maximus Ordelman
You take a seat around the large disc. Once the ride starts, the platform rotates as the supporting arm moves. This constantly changes your position: one moment you’re looking out over the fairground, and the next you feel a powerful sideways movement. The ride is all about intense spinning and the centrifugal forces it creates.
One special feature is the freely rotating gladiator figure in the centre. Its sword moves in a different way from the passenger platform, adding to the dramatic effect. So the Roman theme is more than just scenery; it plays an important part in how you experience the ride. From the outside, you can see the large disc, the rising arm and the striking figure all moving at once.
Maximus focuses on powerful spinning rather than a classic inversion like a propeller ride. Even so, it is clearly aimed at visitors looking for intense movement. The combination of spinning, height and proximity to the large central figure makes the experience unusual.

History of the Roman-themed Heavy Rotation
The ride was built by Technical Park in Italy in 2025. Ad and Albert Ordelman took the Roman-themed ride on the road. Maximus made its debut in June 2025 at the Sinksenfoor in Antwerp. Shortly afterwards, it was also presented at the Tilburgse Kermis in the Netherlands.
In an interview with Kermis FM, the young operator Albert Ordelman explained that he had designed the ride’s appearance himself. The gladiator-and-sword theme is therefore closely tied to the identity of this ride. Maximus is part of the range operated by a showman family that also runs other large rides. However, it is a separate physical ride and should not be confused with either “Airborne” or the “Phantom” pendulum ride.

Who is Maximus Ordelman for?
If you enjoy fast spinning and strong centrifugal forces, Maximus is one of the exciting attractions at a funfair. The open seating arrangement gives you changing views of your surroundings during the ride. It also makes the movement feel particularly direct. If you are sensitive to spinning, bear that in mind when deciding whether to ride.
The ride is also interesting to watch. The freely moving gladiator figure in particular sets Maximus apart from other rides. You can find out the rules for riding at the entrance. You can find more unusual thrill rides in our attractions overview.
