Liberty Wheel – Gormanns
Ferris wheel with a view and illuminated silhouette
Operator: Robert Gormanns (Rostock)
Liberty Wheel: Liberty Wheel is the travelling Ferris wheel operated by the Gormanns family. Unlike a fast round ride, it focuses on the view, smooth movement and the special perspective from above a fair. Its lighting defines its silhouette, especially in the evening.

Liberty Wheel: ride experience
When you get into one of the gondolas, the view changes with every rotation. At first you see the stalls next to the wheel; higher up, they give way to a view of paths, roofs and lights. The movement of a Ferris wheel is controlled, giving you time to look around. The views are different in the dark than during a daytime ride. If you are not used to heights, you can watch a full rotation from below first. For photos, look out for reflections and the gondola's movement.

History of Liberty Wheel
According to the ride database Ride-Index 1990, the wheel was built by Mondial and travelled with Dutch showmen before the Gormanns family acquired it. Gormanns have operated it since the mid-1990s. The operator itself gives the Liberty Wheel's height as 38 metres, its frontage as 22 metres and its depth as 18 metres. Another database gives 36 metres; the operator's specific figure takes precedence here. The power connection is listed as 60 kilowatts. Such a setup requires heavy transport and a crane, as the family explains in its description of the assembly work.

Who is Liberty Wheel suitable for?
Liberty Wheel is especially interesting if you would like to see the layout of a fair from above. During the day, individual buildings and paths are easier to make out; in the evening, the colourful lighting takes centre stage. For a relaxed look around, choose a ride when you are not in a hurry, and keep your camera or phone secure. The team at each location sets the specific rules for children riding, any supervision requirements and the price; no figures that can be relied on long-term are available. Although the Ferris wheel regularly appears at major fairs, its dates should not be confused with its year of construction or its general touring history.
