King of the Lions – Anton Schubert

The children’s flying ride at the fair

Among the larger rides and sweet stalls, König der Löwen has a clearly defined role. The ride is aimed at young visitors who want to enjoy their own funfair experience. At the Karlsruher Mess’, it complements other attractions for children, such as small roller coasters and children’s swing rides. This lets families try different types of rides without having to stick to just one kind of carousel.

What it’s like to ride König der Löwen

The children’s flying ride is all about the feeling of lifting off the ground. Then it circles through the air. For young passengers, even this view is an experience. The fairground also looks different from your seat than it does while you’re waiting. Parents can watch from outside and share the experience. The name König der Löwen gives the ride its own, easily recognisable identity among the many children’s carousels.

This attraction is not a miniature version of an extreme thrill ride. Instead, it belongs to the distinct category of children’s flying rides, where the joy of floating matters more than reaching the highest possible speed. It therefore offers a different experience at a fair from roller coasters, bumper cars or funhouses aimed at older visitors.

History of Anton Schubert’s children’s flying ride

The ride has been part of the Karlsruher Mess’ for several years. König der Löwen was already listed with Anton Schubert in a Karlsruhe voucher booklet from 2019. The official Mess’-Spaß-Coupons for the spring fair 2025 also listed the children’s flying ride with this operator. The City of Karlsruhe also includes it in the children’s programme for the autumn fair 2026.

These repeated appearances have made the ride a familiar name among family attractions in Karlsruhe. The operator attribution is important: other rides are also called König der Löwen. The ride described here is specifically Anton Schubert’s children’s flying ride, not a children’s track ride with the same name operated by another showman.

Who is König der Löwen suitable for?

The children’s flying ride is especially appealing to families with carousel-loving children. It gives them the chance to try a different type of carousel ride. Whether a child is allowed to ride depends on the guidance and decisions of the staff on site. Parents should therefore check the specific access rules at the ride rather than judging suitability based on the name “children’s flying ride” alone.

For families visiting the funfair with several children, the children’s flying ride is an attraction in its own right. Some prefer to go round on the ground, while others want to try flying. You can find more family attractions in our overview of attractions.
