Dom Dancer – Robert Rasch
Hamburg HUSS classic with four rotating gondola crosses
Operator: Robert Rasch (Hamburg) · since 2019
Dom Dancer Rasch is a HUSS Break Dance ride that is particularly closely associated with the Hamburger DOM. The ride is one of the classic spinning rides, with four gondola crosses and a tilted, rotating platform. You can watch the combination of the circling platform, freely spinning gondolas and music from the outside. At other fairgrounds, the same ride is often simply billed as “Dancer”. The different name does not change its identity.

Classic HUSS Break Dance 1; known as Dom Dancer at the Hamburger DOM and usually as Dancer elsewhere.
The Dom Dancer combines the familiar sound of the Hamburger DOM with the characteristic spinning ride of a classic HUSS Break Dance.
Dom Dancer Rasch: From family classic to Hamburg cult ride
The history of today's Dom Dancer goes back to 1990. That year, Hans-Werner Rüth from Hamburg began operating the HUSS Break Dance. For many years, the ride was associated with the Hamburger DOM and shaped the look of its spinning rides. At the end of 2018, the ride passed to Robert Rasch, also from Hamburg. The physical structure therefore remained the same, while the showman responsible for it changed.
This change of operator is important when identifying the ride in historical photographs. An older photo captioned Rüth may well show the same Break Dance that now travels as Dom Dancer Rasch. The name “Dancer” at other fairgrounds does not refer to a second ride either. The addition “Dom” highlights its long association with the Hamburger fairground.
Technically, the ride belongs to the smaller HUSS Break Dance design, with four gondola crosses. This distinguishes it from the larger version with six crosses, operated by other showman families. The more compact design is a classic in its own right, not merely a scaled-down copy. Its special place comes from the combination of a long fairground tradition, changing lights and a ride experience that remains familiar to this day.
What a ride on Dom Dancer Rasch is like
After you board, the gondola crosses spin on the large platform. Each gondola can also rotate around its own axis. So your view keeps changing throughout the ride: one moment you see the people behind the barrier, and shortly afterwards the neighbouring gondola or the back wall. The characteristic sensation comes from the combination of these movements and the recurring sideways acceleration.
The ride is not like a roller coaster. You do not travel along a track, but stay within the circular ride area. Even so, the rotation can feel surprisingly intense. The Dom Dancer also gets much of its appeal from the atmosphere around the ride. Music and lights accompany the movement, bringing the ride and watching it together. The illuminated facade comes into its own as part of the funfair scene, especially in the evening.

Who is the ride suitable for?
If you like fast spinning rides with rotating gondolas, the Dom Dancer is a good fit for you. The gondolas often change direction during the ride. If you are prone to dizziness, watch the movements from the outside before boarding. This can help you decide whether the combination of the spinning platform and additional rotation is for you.
The operator's admission rules apply regardless of how familiar the ride may seem. So check the notices about height requirements and safety restraints at the entrance. The Dom Dancer is also interesting for spectators: from a fixed spot, you can see the four gondola crosses and their different movements particularly well. If you would like to discover other similar rides, you can find them in our collection of rides.
