Break Dance – Hainlein
Berlin HUSS classic from the first Break Dance generation
Operator: Siegfried Hainlein (Berlin) · since 2009
The Break Dance Hainlein from Berlin is an early example of the legendary HUSS series and one of the characteristic spinning rides at German fairs. The ride combines several simultaneous spinning movements: the large disc rotates, the gondola crosses spin on top of it, and the individual gondolas can also swing outwards. This creates a constantly changing rhythm that remains surprising even after several rounds.

Highlights & records
Early HUSS ride no. 2 with 16 gondolas on four gondola crosses.
Hainlein's Break Dance is an early HUSS ride whose interlocking rotations still make it such an exciting ride today.
What makes the Berlin ride special?
Break Dance Hainlein brings together early HUSS technology and a showman who is still on the road. Its long documented history sets it apart from later-built Break Dance rides and similar copies by other manufacturers. If you are interested in the development of large spinning rides, you can experience a living piece of fairground history here—not as an exhibit, but during a regular ride.
What riding Break Dance Hainlein is like
At the start, two passengers sit in each gondola as the platform slowly begins to move. Gradually, the different rotations start to interact. One moment feels like a sideways glide; shortly afterwards, the gondola changes direction and swings out more strongly. The transitions between the movements are what make the ride so exciting: you can hardly predict the next change of direction, even though the ride follows a fixed programme.
The experience is typical of the classic Break Dance, but Hainlein's ride also has a historical character. It dates from the first generation of the type and bears construction number two. So this is not just any Break Dance, but a specific example from the early production run that has been preserved for decades.

The history of Break Dance Hainlein
HUSS built this ride 1985 as Break Dance 1. It initially travelled with Berlin showman Dinali. From 1997 to 2009, Hainlein & Meyer operated the ride; it then passed into the sole management of the Hainlein family. This succession of operators helps put older photos of the ride into context. In images from different decades, the same ride may appear with different lettering or decoration.
The design of this early HUSS generation remains an important part of funfair history. The model combines a rotating platform with four gondola crosses, each carrying four gondolas. There are sixteen gondolas in total, each with two seats. The mechanical concept is so distinctive that Break Dance is instantly recognisable even outside specialist circles.

Who is this fast spinning ride for?
If you enjoy spinning rides, you'll find a mix of music, sideways forces and surprising gondola movements here. Passengers who enjoy switching between gentler rotations and stronger outward swings will especially enjoy the ride. However, the experience can be very intense for anyone who gets dizzy quickly from repeated spinning.
The requirements for riding are displayed at the ride and must be checked before you board. Although the gondolas have side-by-side seats, this is not an ordinary family carousel. You can find more spinning rides and their different ride mechanisms in the Attractions overview.
