What to expect

Mainzer Johannisnacht 2027 takes place in Mainz from Friday, 25 June, to Monday, 28 June 2027. The state capital confirms the four days of festivities. Around the Rhine and the Old Town, you can expect a mix of fair, live music, an artists’ market and Gutenberg traditions. Admission to the public festival grounds is free; individual rides, food and drinks cost extra.

Mainzer Johannisnacht 2027: fair between the Rhine and the old town

The festival area stretches from Adenauerufer via Kaisertor and Fischtorplatz to Markt, Ludwigsstraße and Schillerplatz. The Rhine bank has carousels, other rides and food stalls. Stages, market stalls and street art are spread throughout the city centre. As there are several event areas, you can plan different routes. The detailed site plan for 2027 will be added later.

Gutenberg, Gautschen and artists' market

The Johannisnacht has commemorated Johannes Gutenberg since 1968. One of its special traditions is Gautschen, a symbolic baptism for printers, in which people from the printing and media industries are doused with water. The artists' market along the Rhine bank also invites you to browse jewellery, fashion and handmade one-off items. An antiquarian book market is traditionally part of the event too. The organiser will announce the exact programme and performance times for 2027 as they become available.

Rides and Rhine-side fun

For funfair fans, the Rheinvergnügen by the river in front of the Electoral Palace is particularly interesting. Editions of the Johannisnacht feature rides for children and adults here, as well as games and snack stalls. There is no up-to-date line-up of rides confirming which specific attractions will be there in 2027. We therefore do not list any rides as confirmed participants. The historical photos in our gallery also explicitly show previous editions.

Mainzer Johannisnacht 2027: opening times and admission

The regional events calendar lists daily opening times for 2027 by day of the week; you can find them clearly laid out in the opening times section. Individual stalls and rides may operate at different times from the general festival hours. The public festival area is accessible without a ticket. However, rides, games, food and drink, and some special offers may incur charges. For Monday evening, the regional tourism calendar announces a drone light show over the Rhine at around 22:30.

Getting there and visitor information

As the festival areas are spread across Mainz city centre, travelling by bus, tram or train is a good option. There are connections and walking routes from the station to the central squares. Be aware of possible road closures and relocated stops during the festival. For the latest festival plans, stages and safety information, visit the official website of Mainzer Johannisnacht. Find more fairs in our funfair calendar.
