What to expect

From 15 to 31 October 2027, it’s “Ischa Freimaak” time again in Bremen. The Bremen Freimarkt 2027 brings rides, games, food stalls and festival activities to the Bürgerweide. The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen has already confirmed the dates in its official market calendar. Many details for the 2027 edition – including the specific line-up of rides and the supporting programme – have not yet been published.

Freimarkt on the Bürgerweide: location and size of the fair

Bremen Freimarkt 2027 takes place on the Bürgerweide, at Theodor-Heuss-Allee 15 in 28215 Bremen. The site is right next to the north exit of Bremen Central Station. According to the official Freimarkt website, more than 300 showmen and catering businesses are spread across around 100.000 square metres; the market paths are about 2,3 kilometres long in total. The organisers report around four million visits during the 17 festival days. These figures describe the Freimarkt in general; no separate estimate of its size for 2027 has yet been published.

Rides and line-up at Bremen Freimarkt 2027

Roller coasters, bumper cars, ghost trains, circular and high rides, as well as family-friendly attractions, are traditionally part of the mix at the Freimarkt. The official website generally mentions around 50 rides. It is not yet known which new attractions, classics, children's rides, walkthrough attractions and game stalls will actually come to Bremen in 2027. A confirmed line-up of rides for Bremen Freimarkt 2027 has not yet been published, so specific attraction names are not listed here in advance.

Festival tents and food

As well as rides, Bremen Freimarkt 2027 features festival and party tents and numerous food and drink outlets. You can typically find savoury and sweet fair food on the site, including fish dishes, Schmalzkuchen and other classic snacks. It has not yet been officially announced which festival tents will open in 2027, which operators will take part or when reservations will begin. A complete music and tent programme for 2027 is also not yet available.

History and significance of the Freimarkt

The history of Bremen Freimarkt dates back to the granting of market rights in 1035. By this count, Bremen Freimarkt 2027 is the 992 edition. Over the centuries, the historic market developed into the fair we know today. The official Freimarkt website describes the event as the largest fair in northern Germany. Alongside the large festival on the Bürgerweide, the Kleine Freimarkt in Bremen city centre has traditionally been part of the cityscape. Whether and in what specific form its historic offerings will take place in 2027 will be announced separately.

Bremen Freimarkt 2027: programme, family days and admission

Admission to the Freimarkt was free in previous years; rides, games, food and drink are paid for separately. No specific admission or pricing information for 2027 has yet been published. In 2026, the Freimarkt was open from 13 to 23 on Sundays to Thursdays and until 24 on Fridays and Saturdays; on opening day, it did not start until 16. Confirmed dates for fireworks, family days, special event days and the Freimarkt parade are also not yet available. The parade traditionally takes place on the second Saturday, but no specific date or route for 2027 has yet been confirmed. Only plan for these programme highlights once Bremen or the organiser has officially announced them. Find more dates in our overview of fairs.

Getting to the Freimarkt, parking and public transport

The easiest way to reach Bremen Freimarkt 2027 is by train or public transport: leave Bremen Central Station through the north exit and the festival site is right in front of you. With high visitor numbers, travelling by public transport is usually the simplest option. If you’re coming by car, check with the Bremen Traffic Management Centre in advance for available multi-storey car parks, parking spaces and park-and-ride options. The Bürgerweide itself is not available as a regular large car park during the Freimarkt. In previous years, for example, there was a free park-and-ride car park on Universitätsallee; with a BSAG Freimarkt ticket, you could take line 6 from there to the central station. A specific traffic and park-and-ride plan for 2027 has not yet been published.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an admission charge for Freimarkt?

No. Access to Bürgerweide and the Kleine Freimarkt has so far been free. You pay separately for rides, games, food and drinks.

What does “Ischa Freimaak” mean?

It is Low German for “It’s Freimarkt, after all”. The slogan is as much a part of Freimarkt as the gingerbread heart at the Roland statue.

What is the Kleine Freimarkt?

Alongside Bürgerweide, a smaller market with fried pastries, roasted almonds and liquorice takes place on Bremen’s market square, between the Roland statue, town hall and cathedral. In 2026, it was open daily from 10 to 21, and from 11 on Sundays.

When is the Freimarkt parade?

Traditionally, it takes place on the second Saturday of Freimarkt. In 2026, the 57 parade, with 126 floats and groups, travelled from Neustadt to the market square on 24 October. The date for 2027 has not yet been confirmed.

Where can I park?

Not right by Freimarkt: the Bürgerweide car park and the exhibition centre car park are closed. In 2026, there was a free Park & Ride site at Universitätsallee, with a BSAG Freimarkt ticket for line 6 (4,90 euros). Other Park & Ride sites are Sielhof, Norderländer Straße and Borgfeld.

What rules apply on the site?

Pyrotechnics and clothing bearing rockers' insignia are prohibited. There are visual checks at the entrances. Awareness teams in purple vests can help if you are harassed.
