Essen-Werden Whitsun Funfair 2027 in front of the Ludgerus Basilica
The fairground is on Brückstraße in the historic district of Werden. Right next to the Ludgerus Basilica, the Werdener Feintuchwerke car park turns into a colourful funfair at Whitsun. The combination of funfair activity, historic buildings and green surroundings in the south of Essen is particularly appealing. The fairground is also within walking distance of Werden town centre.
The Interessengemeinschaft Essener Schausteller and Essener Schaustellerverband also organised the 2026 edition here. As the event runs from Friday to Monday around Whitsun, the planned date for 2027 is from 14 to 17 May. Any new official annual announcement takes precedence.
Rides and thrills in Werden
2026, the fairground featured attractions including the high-altitude ride “Projekt 1”, “Sound Wave” and the funhouse “Mike’s PitStop”. There were also bumper cars and other attractions. This list describes only the previous edition; it is not yet known which rides will actually come to 2027.
Families have previously been able to choose from children's rides, game stalls and food and drink options. Popcorn, roasted almonds, crêpes and savoury funfair specialities are also typical offerings. You can plan a relaxed afternoon or a funfair visit with several high-speed rides.

The planned dates run from 14 to 17 May 2027. For the daily opening times, we have provisionally added the schedule announced by the organiser, covering 2026, to the timetable. The opening times are provisional, as of 2026. Possible changes can be made once the showmen publish their operating times for 2027.
Fireworks, opening ceremony and other activities
The 2026 edition included the traditional opening at the Old Town Hall. From there, the procession went to the fairground, where the funfair bell was rung. Fireworks were also announced for the first evening. It is not yet known whether the organisers plan the same activities for 2027. Therefore, neither fireworks nor specific opening times are listed as confirmed programme details.
Admission and travel to the Whitsun Funfair
Admission to the funfair site has been free in recent years; rides, game stalls and food and drink are paid for separately. You can take public transport to Essen-Werden station or to bus stops in the centre. From there, the fairground near Brückstraße is 52 within walking distance. If you travel by car, note that the usual car park becomes part of the fairground.
