Horror-Spuk – Guevar

Mack ghost train with a German and French touring history

Operator: Guevar (Frankreich) · since 2008

ManufacturerMack Rides
Year built1973

Horror-Spuk by Guevar is a travelling ghost train with a remarkably long history. Behind its current name is a ride made by the German manufacturer Mack, which has travelled to German and French fairs under several names. If you enjoy classic ghost trains, you’ll find a different kind of thrill here from the big looping rides: the experience is shaped not by acceleration, but by darkness, scenery and unexpected scenes.

The ride is a portable ghost train in which guests travel in vehicles through a themed course. This sets it apart from walk-through horror mazes, where you make your own way through. The large exterior façade is designed to arouse curiosity and herald the ride's dark world.

Highlights & records

Historic Mack ghost train, rebuilt several times, with a former balcony ride and changing names in Germany and France.

Behind the large horror façade is a ghost train whose name and design have changed over the decades.

What to expect on the ghost train

After boarding, you leave the rest of the journey to the ride. It takes you through areas whose impact comes mainly from the design, the contrast between light and darkness, and the element of surprise. The experience is therefore unlike a fast circular ride. You can focus on the scenes while the vehicle travels along the track.

On a ghost train, anticipation is a major part of the suspense. A suddenly visible image can have more impact than a continuously lit scene. The impression also changes when you first look at the ride from outside and then enter its darker areas yourself.

The history of Horror-Spuk: from Geister-Festival to France

The ride, built by Mack, began its journey 1973 under Renoldi from Bremen. Over the following decades, it spent some time in France before later passing to Levy in Pfaffen-Schwabenheim. Its original name was Geister-Festival, later becoming Geister-Festival 2. The ride was modified several times: an additional balcony ride was part of its design for a while, was later removed and then reinstated.

In 2007, Blume presented the ride under the name Horror-Show. It then moved to France in 2008; today Guevar operates it as Horror-Spuk. The ride thus combines German ride tradition with a later French touring history. It was set up again at the Foire de la Saint-Denis in Saint-Quentin in October 2026. Its history shows that a new name or a redesigned façade does not necessarily mean a new physical ride.

Timeline

1973 as Geister-Festival under Renoldi. Renamed Geister-Festival 2; modifications included a balcony ride for a time. 2007 Horror-Show under Blume; 2008 sold to France and later touring as Horror-Spuk under Guevar.

Who is Horror-Spuk suitable for?

Horror-Spuk is for visitors who enjoy classic fairground horror stories. Sensitivity to frightening moments matters more than extreme ride forces. For very young children or those who are easily scared, a ghost train can be much more intense than an ordinary family carousel. The notices at the ride provide information about the current conditions of entry.

If you prefer to watch, the large façade is also part of the funfair experience. It makes the attraction a striking feature among the other rides. In our overview of funfair attractions, you can discover more ghost trains and walkthrough attractions.
