Strasbourg Christmas Market 2026: Around the cathedral and Place Broglie
The square in front of Strasbourg Cathedral, with its Gothic façade, is particularly impressive. In the evening, the setting is especially atmospheric, with the market huts illuminated. Place Broglie is one of the most traditional locations of the Christkindelsmärik. At the same time, you should not limit yourself to just one square: a walk through the centre takes you past other Christmas market areas, festively decorated façades and typical Alsatian Christmas motifs. It is therefore worth allowing several hours for a full tour.
Christmas tree and Advent activities for families
One of the best-known highlights is the large Christmas tree on Place Kléber. It is one of the most popular photo spots in the Christmas city and is particularly eye-catching after dark. At Square Louise Weiss, the Village de l’Avent offers additional activities for families, including creative activities and stories. This means the market is not just a place to shop for gifts and enjoy food and drink. It is also easy to plan a shared Advent outing with children.
Crafts, Bredele and Alsatian specialities
At the market stalls, you’ll find Christmas decorations, handcrafted products and many culinary specialities. Alsatian Bredele, gingerbread and hot drinks are especially well suited to a winter stroll. You can also discover regional products at many stalls. One special feature is the deposit system for drinks cups: according to the organiser, a deposit of one euro applies, which you can get back or donate to a good cause. This is how Strasbourg combines Christmas cheer with a more sustainable market offering.
Daily opening times and the last market day
The opening times have been officially confirmed for 2026. On the opening Friday, 27 November, the market opens at 14 and closes at 21. On regular market days, the chalets open at 11 and close at 21. On Christmas Eve, the event ends at 18. From 25 December, no market stalls will be open. You can find the times for each day in our opening times overview. Entry to the Christmas market is free; you pay separately for purchases and refreshments.
Getting there, parking and tips for avoiding crowds
Strasbourg's historic centre is mostly reserved for pedestrians during the market. That's why travelling by train and tram is especially convenient. You can walk from the main railway station to the Christmas market areas. If you are driving, it's best to use a park-and-ride site on the outskirts and continue by tram. For a more relaxed visit, the city recommends mornings or weekdays; the most popular squares can get crowded at weekends. There are designated accessible entrances and public toilets.
