Luxembourg – Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart 2026
What to expect
Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart 2026 brings Christmas cheer to Place d’Armes in the heart of Luxembourg’s old town from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. The traditional market is part of the city’s Winterlights programme and is closed on 25 December. If you are looking for a cosy mix of wooden chalets, regional treats and small rides, this is a good place to visit.
Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart 2026: the traditional market on Place d’Armes
Place d’Armes has been this Christmas market’s traditional location since 1984. Decorated stalls stand between the building façades and the historic bandstand. You can browse for gift ideas or warm up with winter specialities. Unlike the other Winterlights locations in the city, this market focuses on the atmosphere of the old parade ground. It is therefore a distinct event destination and should not be confused with the Wantermaart on Place de la Constitution.
Carousel, winter train and Christmas tree
The organiser has announced a Nordmann fir tree about twelve metres tall from Schifflange for this edition. There will also be a large nativity scene by the bandstand. Two activities are specifically announced for children: the carousel “Chahut des 4 éléments” and the little train “Wanterzuch”, which travels through a wintry setting. An official list of the individual showmen or ride prices for these two attractions is not yet available. That is why we have deliberately not included any unconfirmed operator details here.
Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart 2026: opening hours and public holidays
The market is open Sundays to Thursdays from 11 to 21 and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 to 22. On 24 and 31 December, it closes at 18. The market is closed on 25 December. Please note: according to the city, some food and drink businesses may stay open later; these possible special hours are not the same as the general market opening hours. You can find the specific dates in the opening-hours overview on this event page.
Treats and gifts in the historic centre
The market combines food and drink with Christmas gift ideas. Covered areas offer space to take a break, even when the weather is poor. The decorated square also makes an appealing contrast with its urban surroundings. For a family-friendly visit, it is worth checking out the two children's rides; for a longer stroll around the city, you can then visit other Winterlights markets. The individual stall offerings may change during the season.
How to get to the Christmas market
Place d’Armes is in the Upper Town pedestrian zone. If you are travelling by public transport, the central Hamilius interchange is particularly convenient; you can walk to the square from there. Direct car access to the market stalls is not available because of the city-centre location, so allow some time to walk. You can also use the Kirmestermine calendar to find other events.
Important information for your visit
No separate admission charge for access to the market is listed on the official event page. Prices for rides, drinks and purchases are also not published as a definitive, comprehensive list. There is currently no detailed calendar of individual stage performances either; we only add these dates once they have been officially announced. You can find confirmed changes on the City of Luxembourg website.
