Ride experience on Big Bamboo

You make your way on foot through a tropical adventure world. Water features, swaying planks, a suspension bridge and an aeroplane are among the features. The obstacles require balance; you may get wet in some places. Instead of sitting back in a carriage, you find your own way through the attraction.

This also changes the pace of your visit. You can get through some sections quickly, while at others it is worth watching the movement first. Keep moving attentively and leave space between you and the visitors ahead. It is the combination of balance and surprising effects that makes the course so appealing.

Technology and construction

Big Bamboo was built by Dietz in 2011 and belongs to the Hempen showman's business from Oldenburg. Ride-Index documents a frontage of 22,5 metres, a depth of 13 metres and a total height of 16 metres. The connected load is 80 kilowatts. The height describes the entire ride and is not a drop height for visitors.

As a walk-through attraction, it does not need passenger trains or gondolas. The focus is on walk-through stations and their effects. This classification is also useful when planning your visit: you should expect to walk and balance on your own, and check at the entrance whether it is suitable for children accompanying you.

History and operator

Big Bamboo made its debut in July 2011 on the Rheinwiesen in Düsseldorf. Its South Seas theme sets the ride apart from a traditional ghost train and defines its exterior appearance. The official line-up of rides for Cranger Kirmes 2026 lists Robert Hempen as the operator. Ride-Index lists the ride’s details under Hempen oHG.
