The ride experience: Willy der Wurm

A train shaped like an earthworm travels through a colourful fantasy world. Oversized insects and water-spraying ants accompany the short roller coaster ride. The theme is all about discovery and offers a child-friendly introduction to roller coasters. Rather than large inversions, the focus is on travelling through the scenery, with small changes in direction and height.

Accompanying adults can share the experience of riding on rails with children. Watch a circuit first and discuss whether the child wants to ride. The visible design helps you assess the ride, but does not replace the instructions at the entrance.

Technical details and source comparison

The official Cranger press release gives a track length of 143 metres, 24 people per ride and a top speed of five metres per second. This is equivalent to 18 kilometres per hour. These specific figures, attributed to the operator, take precedence over the different database figures of 125 metres and 28 seats.

Coaster Cloud and Coasterpedia describe a chain lift and no inversions. Other sources also disagree in part on the manufacturer, year of construction and restraint system. These uncertain figures are therefore not presented as definitive without verification. An automatic photo system and LED technology are, however, described in the official press release.

History and award

Willy der Wurm made its German debut 2010 at Palmkirmes in Recklinghausen. Frank Roos operated the ride in the past. The Cranger press release names Ingo Bauermeister as the owner since 2015; the ride first appeared at Crange in 2019.

The family received the Award Bester auf Crange 2024 for the ride's design and operation. The award ceremony took place on 30 July 2025. The award year and presentation date are therefore two different details.
