Speedy Welte: the ride experience

On Speedy, you sit in a classic roller coaster train that is lifted onto the track. The ride then takes you through a compact sequence of bends and drops. The thrill comes from the movement of the whole train, not from individual cars spinning freely. For younger roller coaster fans, the combination of a visible track, themed setting and repeated bends can be especially exciting. Adults can watch the ride from the side and judge whether the speed is right for the children with them. The mouse theme also makes Speedy easy to recognise, even at a large fair.

History of Speedy Welte

The roller coaster was built in 1992 by the Italian manufacturer SDC. It travelled with Bernd Walkhöfer until 2007, after which the Welte family took over. It was previously called Speedy Gonzales; the shorter name Speedy has been used since 2013. Ride-Index lists a frontage length of 31,6 metres, a depth of 13,2 metres and a power requirement of 30 kilowatts. The train consists of seven cars with a total of 28 seats. These figures describe this specific ride and should not be confused with those of other SDC junior coasters travelling under similar names.

Who is Speedy Welte suitable for?

Speedy is a good first step from children's carousels to a proper roller coaster. However, you should check the minimum height and any accompanying adult rules displayed at the ride. Queues and fares may vary between fairgrounds. If you would like to see what the ride is like beforehand, kirmesfanmopohl from Hanover has a clear on-ride video 2019. It shows the same coaster, but was not filmed during its current engagement. Check the entrance and seating arrangements on site so that children and accompanying adults can sit together in accordance with the operator's rules.
