Katz & Maus by FTE Ahrend is a travelling spinning roller coaster made by the French manufacturer Reverchon. The ride combines the classic wild mouse layout with cars that can spin around their own axis during the ride. This gives each lap a slightly different feel: as well as tight turns and short drops, the distribution of the riders' weight also affects the ride experience.

Highlights & records

Reverchon spinning coaster with rotating four-person cars and a wild mouse track layout.

Tight mouse turns and rotating four-person cars make Katz & Maus a roller coaster ride with surprising perspectives.

The Katz & Maus ride experience

After boarding, four people sit together in a round car. A chain lift takes the car up. The track then follows with characteristic changes of direction, tight turns and drops. What makes this Reverchon ride special is that the cars also spin: unlike an ordinary wild mouse, the car does not always face the direction of travel.

The rotation can change during the ride. The combination is particularly exciting when the track moves straight on to the next section after a change of direction. This creates different views and surprising perspectives of the track. If you have already ridden a classic wild mouse, this offers a similar layout with a distinctly individual character. The ride has no loop, but offers plenty of movement.

The history of Katz & Maus: Crazy Mouse gets a new name

The ride was built in 1999. Its first documented operator was Romi Maier from Switzerland, who is listed as operating it until 2009. The ride later passed to the FTE Ahrend showman business from Springe. For many years, funfair visitors knew it by the name Crazy Mouse. It was not until autumn 2023 that it became Katz & Maus.

This name history is important because several roller coasters with similar mouse-related names travelled to fairs. Not every older ride called Katz und Maus is the same attraction. Ahrend's ride is specifically the Reverchon spinning coaster from 1999. The name change altered its presentation, but not the basic track and car design.

Operator and special features

FTE Ahrend takes the ride to different fairgrounds. Its round, freely rotating cars and intricate track layout make it immediately recognisable as a spinning coaster. Unlike large roller coasters with long straight sections, this model relies on a dense sequence of short ride elements. The compact track layout allows for many changes of direction in a limited space.

The combination of a classic mouse-style roller coaster and a rotating car appeals both to roller coaster fans and to visitors looking for a varied ride experience. In our overview of other rides, you can compare the Spinning Coaster with other travelling roller coasters.

Who is Katz & Maus suitable for?

If you enjoy fast turns, short drops and extra spins, this roller coaster is an interesting choice. The changing direction of the car can make the ride more surprising than expected. If you are sensitive to spinning movements, bear that in mind before boarding. Also check the height and safety rules displayed directly at the ride: these determine whether you can ride.
