Barock-Kinderwellenflieger by Urbigkeit is a travelling children's carousel with freely suspended seats and a design reminiscent of historic fairground carousels. The ride combines the manageable dimensions of a children's ride with the characteristic flying sensation of a swing ride. The structure was built by Dietz and has been travelling to fairs since the 1990s.

Highlights & records

A child-friendly swing ride with a historic Baroque design.

Swinging seats and a decorative façade combine gentle moments of flight with funfair tradition.

What it is like to ride the Barock-Kinderwellenflieger

The seats hang from chains around the rotating central structure. As soon as the carousel starts, the seats swing outwards. This makes the ride quite different from a traditional ground carousel, where the vehicles stay on a fixed platform. Children enjoy a free-swinging ride with a view of the fairground, while accompanying adults can watch from outside.

The Barock-Kinderwellenflieger does not rely on tall towers or extreme acceleration. Its appeal lies in combining a swinging motion with decorative styling. Its historic look provides a deliberate contrast, especially among modern rides. Because the seats are suspended individually, the circular motion defines the whole ride experience.

Barock-Kinderwellenflieger: History and previous operators

The ride was built in 1995 by the German manufacturer Dietz. According to the ride database Ride-Index, it previously belonged to the Kutschenbauer showman operation from the Bremen and Delmenhorst area. According to this record, it changed operators to Urbigkeit in 2009. Today the ride is known as Barock-Kinderflieger or Barock-Kinderwellenflieger.

In northern German line-up listings, the carousel also appears under the name Kinder-Taumler. The official Bremen Freimarkt overview for 2023 explicitly lists Cynthia Urbigkeit-Langenscheidt with the Barock-Kinderwellenflieger. These names are part of the history of the same ride and explain why older lists use different names for it.

Operator and set-up

Urbigkeit from Rostock operates the children's swing ride as a travelling attraction. Ride-Index records an area of about 10,5 by 9 metres. This allows the ride to fit on fairgrounds of different sizes. Its modest footprint and classic design define its character as a children's attraction.

Who is the ride suitable for?

The ride is aimed at young funfair visitors who want to try a swing ride. Unlike a large swing ride, it is designed to the scale of a children's ride. This makes it especially appealing to families looking for gentler options alongside fast, large rides. The specific admission requirements and safety instructions are displayed at the ride and must be followed when boarding.

The open arrangement of the seats makes it easy to watch the ride from the outside. For children, the most exciting moment is when the seats swing outwards as the ride spins faster. Its Baroque design gives the carousel a distinctive look. You can find more classic children’s rides in the attractions directory.
