What to expect

The Rheinisches Fischerfest 2027 takes place from Thursday, 29 July, to Monday, 2 August 2027, with the 77th festival edition on the Rhine in Gernsheim. The organiser and the town have confirmed the date for the 77th edition. For five days, you can enjoy a large funfair, market stalls and food and drink right by the water. The festival combines tradition with attractions from showmen. The harbour also provides a distinctive setting.

Rheinisches Fischerfest 2027: 77th edition at the harbour

The festival was founded in 1949 as a gathering to promote understanding between professional and sport anglers. This meeting developed into an annual fair. Today, it attracts many people to Gernsheim. The current edition is called Rheinisches Fischerfest 2027. This time too, showmen, clubs, food and drink businesses and market traders are expected to come together in the harbour area. Its riverside setting makes Fischerfest particularly appealing in the evening. The event also offers opportunities for sporting activities and shared experiences around the Rhine.

Rides, fish and market stalls

Rheinisches Fischerfest traditionally features modern rides and carousels, as well as game stalls and plenty of food and drink. Fish dishes and other regional specialities are a particular focus. Traders and exhibitors add sales stalls to the funfair area. A complete new line-up of rides has not yet been published, so it is not yet known which specific rides will be there in 2027. For this reason, neither the site layout nor attractions from 2026 are being presented as current without verification. The title image shows the 2014 edition.

Rheinisches Fischerfest 2027: opening times and admission

Opening times are provisional, as of 2026. The official schedule from the previous year lists different start times. The festival opened in the afternoon on Thursday and a little earlier on Friday. At the weekend and on Monday, the fairground opened in the morning or at midday. Closing times also varied. The five daily time slots are therefore listed separately in the MEC schedule. General admission to the festival site was free in previous years. However, some special attractions, rides, food and drink cost extra.

Fireworks and entertainment on the Rhine

Previous editions featured music, Fischerstechen (a traditional jousting competition on the water) and sporting competitions. They also included two major fireworks displays. In 2026, there was a pyromusical over the harbour and a grand fireworks display to close the festival. These past highlights show the character of the festival, but are not confirmed plans for 2027. The new structured programme overview will therefore not initially include fireworks times or performers from the previous year. The festival committee will publish the current programme in good time.

Getting to Gernsheim Fischerfest

Its location on the Rhine also makes it an appealing place to visit by bike. From Gernsheim station, follow the route towards the harbour to reach the festival site. In 2026, parking fees were charged for the first time at the town's parking meadows. Bicycle parking remained free. You still need to check the exact arrangements for 2027. For the latest information, visit the official Fischerfest website. You can find more fairs in our funfair calendar.
