Herford – Fair at Auf der Freiheit 2027

Fair on der Freiheit 2027 in Herford: Expected to run from Saturday, 27 March to Sunday, 4 April 2027, the street “Auf der Freiheit” will once again become a lively Easter funfair. Between the town centre, town hall and Gänsemarkt, rides, stalls and plenty of funfair atmosphere await you, as always. The exact date for 2027 has not yet been officially confirmed.

Fair on der Freiheit 2027 in the heart of Herford

The Herforder Ostervolksfest has been one of the popular spring events in Ostwestfalen-Lippe for many years. Unlike a funfair on the outskirts, this funfair is right in the heart of the city. The rides are spread across the area around Auf der Freiheit street. Restaurants, shops and other attractions in the city centre are also close by. So you can combine a visit to the funfair with a trip to Herford.

For the 2026 edition, the city confirmed the area between the station crossroads and Stephansplatz or Münsterkirchplatz as the festival grounds. This confirms the traditional event location, but says nothing yet about the final site plan 2027.

Rides, classics and treats

Typical attractions in previous years included a Ferris wheel, Musikexpress, Break Dance and other round rides. There were also children's carousels, game stalls and a wide range of food stalls. On an evening visit, the many lights created a special setting. However, the specific rides appearing at 2027 have not yet been announced. We therefore do not list attractions from previous years as a confirmed line-up of rides.

Of course, the taste of the funfair is part of the experience too: sweets, roasted almonds, savoury snacks and drinks featured at previous editions. The selection at individual stalls may change each year.

Fair auf der Freiheit 2027: Times and Easter dates

The submitted period from 27 March to 4 April fits the previous pattern, from Easter Saturday to the Sunday after Easter. The opening hours have been provisionally taken from the published information for the 2026 edition; at the time, the funfair usually opened at 14 and stayed open until 23 on Fridays, Saturdays and Easter Sunday. Final confirmation from the organiser for 2027 is still pending.

Family day and other activities

In the past, there have been family offers with reduced ride prices. For example, Wednesday was announced as family day in the 2026 edition. It is not yet known whether the promotional day 2027 will take place again on Wednesday, 31 March. Special performances, free rides and opening promotions will only be confirmed once a new programme is published.

Admission, travel and parking

Admission to the street funfair is free, as in previous years; rides, games and food are paid for separately. If you travel by train, Herford station is not far from the festival area. You can also reach the town centre by public transport. Road closures and bus diversions may be in place during set-up and dismantling. So check the city’s latest notices before you travel.
