Air Power by Tom Heine is a striking black-and-green giant swing that has been touring German fairs since 2023. The ride belongs to the Freak Out type, made by the Dutch manufacturer KMG. Even from the ground, its four opposing rows of seats and distinctive façade stand out. In the air, the scene changes completely: the gondolas swing back and forth while the seating group also rotates.

Highlights & records

Back-and-forth swinging motion with a rotating seating group; black-and-green design and more than 20.000 individually controlled LEDs.

Air Power combines powerful swings with a rotating group of gondolas. The changing views are what make the ride so appealing.

Discover Air Power at the fairground

The official operator website provides information about the ride and its current appearances. If you mainly want to photograph its spectacular movements, it is worth viewing it from the side, where you can see the swinging motion especially clearly. You can find more rides of this kind in our overview of fairground attractions.

What a ride on Air Power feels like

When you board, you sit with other passengers in an open row of seats. Once the ride starts, the large arm swings further and further out. At the same time, the group of gondolas rotates, constantly changing your view. One moment you are looking straight at the fairground; shortly afterwards, you are looking up at the sky. This combination makes the ride varied: the swinging motion gives you butterflies in your stomach, while the rotation brings unexpected views.

Air Power does not perform a full inversion of its large swinging arm. Even so, the movement can feel extremely intense. Your legs hang freely, the wind is easy to feel and the height changes how the ride feels. This makes it particularly appealing to visitors looking for a powerful ride experience without sitting on a traditional roller coaster.

History and design of Air Power

The ride was built in 2023 and made its debut at the Stoppelmarkt in Vechta. It is operated by Tom Heine of Bremen; the Heine & Burghard GbR presents the ride on its official website. Its appearance features dark surfaces, vivid green and extensive lighting. According to the operator, it uses more than 20.000 individually controlled LEDs. This keeps the front easy to spot, even at large, crowded fairgrounds.

The official presentation highlights the unusual movement and the interplay of height, lights and music. Another typical feature of the ride is that a relatively small group rides at a time: there are 16 seats in total. If you are looking for it at a fairground, you can usually recognise it by its tall swinging structure and distinctive colours.

Who is the giant swing suitable for?

Freak Out is aimed mainly at teenagers and adults who enjoy spinning and wide swings. If you are prone to dizziness, you should watch the movement from outside first. The changing direction you face is also an important part of the experience. Air Power is not a gentle observation ride where you can sit back and quietly take in the surroundings for a while.

The ride is also great for spectators: you can follow the seating group throughout the ride and see how the swinging and rotation combine. After dark, the many LEDs enhance the effect. Music and show elements also bring the area in front of the ride to life.
