What to expect

Bellevue Noël 2026 makes its debut from 19 November to 23 December as a new Christmas market on Sechseläutenplatz in Zürich. Between the opera house and Lake Zürich, you’ll find more than 100 market and food stalls, cosy wooden huts, winter specialities and a dedicated children’s area. The highlight is a walk-through Advent wreath, from which you can look out over the illuminated square. There’s also a fondue chalet and a varied programme of workshops and little surprises. Admission to the Christmas market is free.

Bellevue Noël 2026: New Christmas market at the Zürich Opera House

With the new Bellevue Noël, Zürich gets a special place for a festive stroll in 2026. The large Sechseläutenplatz directly in front of the opera house is transformed into a Christmas market. Lake Zürich is also just a few steps away, so you can easily combine your visit with a walk along the lakeside promenade. The atmosphere is especially lovely after sunset, among the illuminated huts, impressive architecture and winter decorations. The new market is separate from the Christmas markets at Zürich main station and in Niederdorf.

Bellevue Noël 2026: Walk-through Advent wreath as the highlight

At the heart of the market is the large walk-through Advent wreath. You can enter it via a dedicated entrance and look down from above over the Christmas market and the opera house, towards the lake. The four candles symbolise important ideas of Advent. A stroll in the evening is especially lovely, when the market lights come into their own. Access to the Advent wreath is free, but you’ll need a free ticket for a specific time slot. You can reserve one online or on site, subject to availability. So check how to book in good time.

More than 100 stalls, fondue and Swiss specialities

The more than 100 traders and hosts offer handicrafts, gifts and plenty of food and drink. The Fondue-Chalet sounds especially appealing, promising a cosy atmosphere high above the market. There’s also takeaway fondue, roasted chestnuts, savoury snacks and sweet treats. So you can enjoy a long evening with friends or simply grab a bite during your stroll around the market. Booking a table at the chalet is recommended, as visiting the market doesn’t guarantee you a seat.

Children’s area and Christmas programme

Families will also find plenty to discover at Bellevue Noël 2026. The children’s area has a carousel, a teddy bear workshop, a reading corner and a wish box for Samichlaus. Children can also get creative, paint or take part in selected activities. To mark the opening on 19 November, the clowns from Zürich Children’s Hospital will be visiting the teddy bear workshop. Walking acts will also perform over the opening weekend. Later in Advent, there’ll be creative workshops, such as decorating Biber biscuits on 20 December. Separate conditions apply to paid activities and those with limited places.

Opening weekend programme

The event begins on Thursday, 19 November, with a family-friendly opening. The hospital clowns will be there from 17 to 20. Walking acts on stilts will also surprise visitors among the market stalls over the following days. From Friday to Sunday, 20 to 22 November, you can have Christmas baubles personalised with calligraphy. So it’s worth checking the official events calendar if you’d like to take part in a particular activity as well as stroll around the market. Full dates are listed in the programme section on this page.

Opening hours and free admission

The Christmas market is open Monday to Saturday from 11 to 22 and on Sundays from 11 to 20. The fondue chalet and bar stay open later on many evenings: until midnight Monday to Saturday, and until 23 on Sundays. This means you can relax together after your stroll around the market. General admission to the market is free. The walk-through Advent wreath is also free, but requires a free ticket for the relevant time slot. Shopping, food and drink, and some children’s activities are charged separately.

Getting there and tips for your visit

The easiest way to get to Bellevue Noël is by public transport. The Bellevue tram stop is right by Sechseläutenplatz; tram lines 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11 and 15 stop there. You can also easily walk to the opera house from several parts of the city centre. The organisers advise against travelling by car, as parking is scarce during Advent. If you want to avoid the crowds, try visiting in the early afternoon on a weekday. You can find more details on the official Bellevue Noël website.
