Flying Jumbo – Frederico Vermolen
Flying elephants with individual height control
Operator: Frederico Vermolen (Vermolen-De Voer, Netherlands) · since 2017
Flying Jumbo Vermolen is a travelling children's flying carousel with elephant gondolas that Frederico Vermolen brings to funfair sites in the Netherlands. The ride is one of those where children do more than simply go round in circles: they can control the height of their flying elephant using a foot pedal. This adds a small playful challenge to the ride without taking away from its character as a family-friendly carousel.

Highlights & records
Elephant gondolas with a foot pedal for controlling the height. Children under six must be accompanied by an adult. Winter appearance documented as Flying Rudolph with different gondolas.
On the Flying Jumbo, you control how high your elephant flies using a foot pedal – a children's carousel with a genuine interactive idea.
A ride on Flying Jumbo Vermolen
The Flying Jumbo spins its gondolas around a shared centre. Guests sit in elephants that can rise as they go round. A particularly appealing feature is the option to control the flying height yourself with your foot. This means that no two rides are exactly the same: if you raise your elephant, you can see the fairground from a slightly higher viewpoint. Others let theirs circle closer to the ground.
The elephant shape is more than a decoration. It immediately conveys the character of the ride and gives the carousel a distinctive theme. From the outside, you can watch the individual gondolas circle at different heights. This also makes Flying Jumbo interesting for families who want to try a flying carousel for the first time.

History and design of the Flying Jumbo
The ride was built in 2017 by the Czech manufacturer Kolmax-Plus. Vermolen is already listed as its first operator. This distinguishes this Flying Jumbo from elephant carousels with similar names operated by other showmen: what matters is the specific ride and its own history, not just the shared gondola design.
The ride features striking elephant-themed design and modern lighting. The operator’s presentation specifically highlights the lighting equipment. Another special feature is its seasonal adaptation: an industry overview explains that during the winter months, the ride can appear as Flying Rudolph with different gondolas. This allows the basic concept of the flying carousel to be adapted to a different festival theme.
For visitors, however, the most important feature remains the same: you can shape the ride yourself in a small flying gondola. This makes it a distinctive example of Dutch children’s flying carousels.

Who is Flying Jumbo Vermolen suitable for?
This ride is designed for children and families. Riding together is explicitly part of the concept: according to the operator, children under six must be accompanied by an adult. If you are visiting with younger children, you should check this rule at the entrance. The foot controls are also an exciting part of the ride, as they let you take part in the action easily.
Flying Jumbo is therefore not a classic high-altitude ride focused on reaching the highest possible speed. The focus is on the elephant gondolas, the view of the fairground and the small decision of when to rise. In the ride overview, you can find more children’s flying carousels and other rides for families.
