The Crazy Worm – Schaffeld

The little worm roller coaster for a family outing

Operator: Bernhard Schaffeld (Berlin)

ManufacturerGüven Amusement Rides Factory
Year built2021

The Crazy Worm Schaffeld is a small travelling roller coaster that appeals mainly to families and younger funfair visitors. Instead of a huge steel structure, the ride features a friendly worm character and a straightforward course. From the entrance, it is clear that the focus is on sharing the roller coaster experience: the cars form a connected train that travels through bends and over small changes in height. This makes the Crazy Worm a different option from the big coasters designed for extreme speed.

What riding The Crazy Worm Schaffeld is like

The train takes its passengers on a compact circuit. During the ride, you pass through uphill sections, descents and bends. The movements are designed for a mini roller coaster. This means that even entering a bend can be an exciting moment for children, without the ride taking on the character of a large thrill coaster. You can also follow the train easily as it travels around the track. This is especially nice for accompanying adults who want to watch their children’s first roller coaster ride.

The worm design suits its family-friendly character: this is about a cheerful theme and a shared outing at the fair. The atmosphere is playful, not dark or focused on shock effects.

The history of The Crazy Worm Schaffeld

The ride was built by the Turkish manufacturer Güven Amusement Rides Factory in 2021. It was initially known as “Emil der Wurm”. Its documented debut took place in June 2021 at Wilhelms Fun Park in Wilhelmshaven. Thilo Janßen from Rastede is listed as its former operator; later, the Berlin showman business Schaffeld took over the ride. This history of names and operators matters because different worm-themed roller coasters travel around fairs, and despite their similar themes, they differ in their engineering and origins.

The Crazy Worm is an example of a newer generation of small portable family rides. Its concept combines an easily recognisable theme with the experience of a traditional rail ride. A ride like this is a good addition to larger round rides and high rides, especially at fairs that offer attractions for different age groups.

Who is the mini roller coaster suitable for?

For families looking for a straightforward roller coaster, this ride is an interesting place to stop. Children experience a real ride on rails with the typical changes of direction, while adults can usually keep the compact track in view. If you are expecting loops or particularly steep drops, another type of roller coaster would be a better choice. You can find out the current height and accompaniment requirements directly at the ride; the staff decide whether it is safe to board.

If you are out with several children, the ride makes a good shared activity to include in your funfair visit. Find more attractions in our overview of attractions.
