Tornado – Stricker & Söhne is a compact, transportable family roller coaster made by the Italian manufacturer Zamperla. The ride is also known under its former operator, Wolters-Domke. Its design combines the typical twisting ride of a small roller coaster with the compact dimensions of a travelling funfair attraction. Tornado is a classic in its own right, especially for visitors who want to experience a roller coaster ride without immediately boarding a large, high-speed coaster.

The Tornado shows how much of a roller coaster experience can fit into a small travelling steel structure: classic turns rather than record-breaking heights.

Tornado – Stricker & Söhne: What the ride is like

The small steel roller coaster takes its cars around a compact track with several changes of direction. Unlike on larger rides, extreme height is not the main attraction: the movement and the sequence of closely spaced turns shape the experience. According to the Coasterfriends ride documentation, it is a powered coaster. This means the vehicle travels along the track using an electric motor, rather than being accelerated by gravity after a high lift hill.

Because the track fits into a relatively small area, you can easily follow the action from the sidelines. This may appeal to families with younger roller coaster fans: the movement remains visible and the way the ride works is easy to understand. The operator sets the specific riding requirements at the ride.

Tornado – Stricker & Söhne: History and operator

For many years, the ride was associated with the Berlin showman business Wolters-Domke. The specialist websites Ride-Index and Coaster Cloud now list Stricker or Stricker & Söhne as the operator and explicitly name Wolters-Domke as the former operator. This operating history matters because older photos, tour lists and reports often still use the old name. They refer to the same transportable Zamperla ride, not necessarily another roller coaster called Tornado.

The documented footprint is around twenty by twelve metres, and it is about five metres high. This explains why the Tornado differs considerably from larger travelling roller coasters: its strengths are its compact design and an immediately engaging ride experience. This type of junior roller coaster is part of the diversity of traditional fairs.

Who is the Tornado for?

Tornado – Stricker & Söhne is aimed above all at people who enjoy classic funfair roller coasters. Instead of spectacular inversions, it offers a manageable ride where turns and travelling together in the train take centre stage. This makes it particularly interesting for families and visitors who enjoy smaller roller coasters. Fans of historic travelling rides will also appreciate a closer look at the ride's design and construction.

If you spot Tornado at a fairground, it is worth watching the train from the outside first. The visible track layout shows clearly how a compact roller coaster works in a limited space. You can find more mobile rides in our attraction overview.
