The history of Resslirytti Roie
The family story is closely linked to the development of this carousel. In a profile from 2015, Peter Roie said that an earlier original carousel belonging to the family was destroyed in Frankfurt during the Second World War. However, the original construction plans were saved. This story explains why the attraction means more to the showman family than an ordinary ride.
According to the same article, the carousel had already been at Petersplatz during the Basler Herbstmesse since around 2005. The Museum der Kulturen Basel also highlighted 2021 the importance of Resslirytti to the autumn fair and the family story. When the ride did not operate that year because of coronavirus restrictions, this even prompted the museum to publish a feature of its own.
