The ride experience at Kinderparadies No. 1
The design draws on the fairy-tale world of 1001 Nights. Talking vehicles and elaborate lighting add to the ride. Children choose their vehicle and enjoy a gentle carousel ride. The operator also describes the option of travelling as a firefighter, helicopter pilot or superhero.
For young visitors, choosing a vehicle is often just as much a part of the ride as the movement itself. During the ride, they can spot their accompanying adults and wave to them. Watch how it works with your child and, if needed, ask which seats are suitable for their height and age.

Kinderparadies No. 1: technical details
Ride-Index lists Hennecke as the manufacturer, gives the year of construction as 1949 and classifies it as a 16-part sport carousel. The current operator's website gives a diameter of eleven metres and an overall height of six metres. The footprint is listed as eleven by eleven metres; the ticket booth requires an additional two by five metres.
The operator gives a maximum capacity of 55 children. This is not an hourly capacity. The documented power supply is 380 volts and 63 amps. As no clear power rating is available, no connection load in kilowatts has been calculated.
History and operator
According to Ride-Index, before Barkhofen the ride belonged to Erich Knorr from Essen until 1966, and then to Elsa Walter from Essen from 1966 to 1981. The current operator's website lists the carousel as part of Karl-Heinz Barkhofen's line-up. Karl Heinz Barkhofen is officially listed for Cranger Kirmes 2026.
The modern vehicles and the historic year of construction describe different aspects of the same ride. An old year of construction therefore does not mean that all the vehicles and lighting elements visible today date from the original year.
