A classic cage swing for loop-the-loops
The steel cages follow the principle of the classic roundabout swing. Instead of a large, automated themed ride, the focus is on the direct swinging motion. This compact ride fits in well with the traditional attractions at a funfair. You experience the movement up close and can watch how it works from the ground.
The name refers to the swing going full circle. However, this does not automatically mean that you ride upside down as you would on a roller coaster. Ask the staff to explain the exact movement and operation before you get on. This will help you decide whether this type of swing is right for your visit.
Cranger Kirmes lists a frontage of 14 metres, a depth of nine metres and a height of seven metres. The ride is classed as a cage roundabout swing. Its modest dimensions set it apart from large, motorised pendulum rides that carry whole groups in a single gondola.
Ride-Index lists the historic ride as built in 1948. Six cages each accommodate two passengers. The passengers set the gondolas swinging by moving themselves. This also makes the loop-the-loop swing technically different from modern, motorised pendulum rides.
Historic loop-the-loop swing by Achtendunk, built in 1948. Operated by Wurms until around 1975, by Arens until 2006, by Olnhausen from 2007–2019, and by Renaldo Janßen from 2020–2024. Since 2025, operated by Adriano Loritz from Düsseldorf. The organiser's website still lists Janßen for Cranger Kirmes 2026; the Gallimarkt list 2026 names Loritz.
Renaldo Janßen (Varel), 2020–2024; von Olnhausen (Düsseldorf), 2007–2019; Arens (Dortmund), until 2006; Wurms, until around 1975
Since 2025, the historic loop-the-loop swing has travelled under Adriano Loritz from Düsseldorf. Before that, it was with Renaldo Janßen from Varel from 2020 to 2024. Cranger Kirmes 2026 still listed it under Janßen. The Gallimarkt 2026, by contrast, names Loritz. Over its long history, this funfair classic has therefore been associated with several showman families.
Watch a round first and pay attention to how the cages move. Then ask the staff about age rules, suitable occupancy and how to get on. The price and any rules for accompanying adults are also provided at the ride. Follow the team's instructions while it is operating.
